Private Lending Credibility Kit - The Importance of Highlighting Your Team
One of the key elements to any private lender and real estate investor is the importance of the involvement of others. As a real estate investor you're not doing this by yourself. You're not in a vacuum. You must have other people involved. You must have title clerks. You must have, potentially, real estate agents. You must have buyers and sellers. You must have attorneys potentially, contractors, property managers, insurance agents, and the list goes on and on and on. All of these people become part of your team, and it really makes some sense to introduce those people to your private lender right up front. Involve Your Team in Group Presentations If you're going to be doing group presentations, it makes a lot of sense to have one or two or three members of your team with you at that meeting. One of my coaching students lives in California and he's going to be doing some meetings, and he wants to have his title clerk there and I believe his attorney and a few others. Each of them gets five or ten minutes to kind of talk about what they do and what value they bring to the table. Even though I'm a real estate investor and I am an expert, I'm certainly not a good attorney. I'm certainly not a good title clerk, I'm certainly not a good insurance agent, and I'm certainly not a good property manager. Now that's not in my case, but you understand what I'm trying to say here is you need a team. It's a team concept and the private lender needs to know that each of the holes that are important in any real estate investing business is being filled by somebody. If you could introduce that person to the private lender, you've essentially introduced them to your team, so it's not just me investing with you; it's our team investing with you. Provide Team Contacts in Your Credibility Kit You'll notice on my credibility kit I actually do two things: one is I provide them with my team, and I also give phone numbers and email address and invite anybody who wants to use them as a reference. Call my insurance agent up and ask about me, call my banker up and ask about me, I don't care. I've asked these folks' permission to do that, obviously, but it's a way of showing, 1) that you have a strong team, and 2) you believe in them enough that you're willing to let the private lender talk to them individually without you there. I would highly recommend doing both. If you can do it, I think it's a very nice way of doing it.
